What can I sow now? Should I take the unripe figs of the tree? My tomatoes got blight! A full rota of Master Gardeners kept up with an unceasing flow of visitors and their questions this weekend (15th and 16th September). This was the Lambeth Country Show, a thronging event held in the wonderfully hilly and pastoral Brockwell Park between Brixton and Herne Hill in South London.
Master Gardeners were in the Incredibele Edible Lambeth campus on the hill, just by the fruit, vegetable and flower
show marquee.
IEL are building a food strategy in the borough and aiming link up the many food growing groups. There were tastings of locally grown food, shelling of drying beans from the Clapham Common Bandstand Beds, hops from the Brixton Beer Company grown around the borough, baby leaf tasting from Lambeth Poly, Brockwell Bake had their mills, a Minty Tea Party table for sipping local herb infusions.
Above all: tons of enthusiastic chat!
It was Master Gardeners doing what they do at their best and a joy to be there – some of us for the third year running!
